Online symposium with RWTH Aachen, Germany, was held
A two-day online symposium was held with the biotechnology research group at RWTH Aachen on January 27 and February 26, 2021. This symposium was held as a follow-up meeting of the Japanese-German Graduate Externship Program, which had been conducted between Osaka University and RWTH Aachen from FY 2010 to FY 2019. A total of 130 people participated in the symposium, shared their recent research progress, and discussed on future collaboration.

We, International Center for Biotechnology (ICBiotech), will have the 9th Workshop on Collaboration between Osaka University (OU) and Japanese Companies for Global Human Resource Development (HRD). In the workshop, we introduce our activities on the international HRD, as well as Southeast Asian students in ICBiotech and the Graduate School of Engineering (Biotechnology Department) of Osaka University, to our partners in biotechnology industries. Former OU international students, who are now actively working in Japanese biotechnology companies, will also join the workshop and share their experiences in Japan. Students are able to learn about Japanese biotechnology companies and how to apply their scholarly works in the real industry. We always welcome your participation.

We hosted an international workshop together with the University of California – Davis and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Tokyo, to discuss the commercial production of Plant-Made- Pharmaceuticals (PMPs) from the perspective of design method/structural systems analysis (DMSSA). It was successfully completed with 78 attendees.

IN FOCUS: The new ICBiotech Building and the UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia
ICBiotech has moved to its new building. Following the renovation of the old building and the construction of the new one, ICB has relocated to its new home last May 20, 2013. The building, now known as the International Research Complex for Biotechnology, houses the laboratories of the International Center for Biotechnology as well as other laboratories and offices of the Graduate School of Engineering. Please come and visit us!

(9:00 am) Opening Ceremony of the UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia UNESCO officials and scholars from various countries will be welcomed as we commence this year�fs UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia Program.
(11:30 am) Opening Ceremony of the International Research Complex for Biotechnology Shortly after the opening ceremony of the UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia, the IRCB will be formally inaugurated.
(1:00 pm) Welcome party
Participants of both the opening ceremonies for UNESCO Biotechnology School in Asia and the International Research Complex for Biotechnology are cordially invited to this party!
