The opening ceremony for the Osaka-Mahidol International Office

The opening ceremony for the Osaka-Mahidol International Office was held at Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus.
Executive Vice Presidents Manabu TANAKA and Beverley Anne YAMAMOTO attended the ceremony and Prof. FUJIYAMA (Director of ICBiotech) also attended.
In addition to this, they visited the Faculty of Science with students from Osaka Univ. who have joined “Student Exchange Support Program 2023”.
We have Cooperative Research Station (CRS) in Southeast Asia at the Faculty of Scinece, Mahidol University.

Our Emeritus Professor YOSHIDA Toshiomi, who was the Former Director of ICBiotech and a guest professor from 2012 to 2022 passed away on Apr. 28.

Reserach Contents and Brief History of Dr.Priya Shah
Bio: Dr. Priya Shah is an assistant professor of Chemical Engineering and Microbiology & Molecular Genetics at UC Davis. Her group works at the intersection of these two disciplines, applying quantitative systems biology tools to study biological processes with a focus on virus-host interactions. Dr. Shah grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and had her first research experience in a biochemistry lab at University of Toledo. She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from MIT, and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley with David Schaffer. Dr. Shah did her postdoc in systems virology at UCSF with Nevan Krogan and Raul Andino. When not doing science, she enjoys improvising 90s music into songs about family members (usually the dog).

Commemorating 50 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Mongolia, the International Center for Biotechnology and Center for Global Initiatives at Osaka University, the Institute of Biology at Mongolian Academy of Sciences, and the School of Arts and Sciences at National University had a joint mini symposium on biotechnology on January 23 (Monday).

ASEAN Center for Academic Initiatives Director NIHIRA Takuya receives honorary doctorate from Mahidol University (Thailand)

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Osaka University ASEAN Center for Academic Initiatives Director NIHIRA Takuya (former Director of the International Center for Biotechnology, Osaka University) received an honorary doctorate in biotechnology from Mahidol University in Thailand. This doctorate was awarded to Professor Nihira for his numerous contributions to the bioengineering field at Mahidol University.
At the award ceremony, which was held at Mahidol University, the honorary doctorate was bestowed on Prof. Nihira directly by Princess Sirindhorn, who was in attendance in place of King Vajiralongkorn.

The symposium was held in the settha palace Hotel, Vientiane, Laos, on January13. Seven five (75) people in attendance engaged in active discussion.

UNESCO One-month lab revisit program

The researchers of UNESCO training project for FY 2013(One-month lab revisit program) came to Japan on 31st of August and have done research at Tohoku U., Kyoto U, Kyushu U. and Osaka U.. The debrief meeting was held on 4th of September at ICBiotech and researchers reported how they accomplished their research in one month. After that, Prof. Fujiyama strongly asked them to spread and share their experience in Japan to students and researchers around them after returning their home country and this year’s project finished with a huge success.

14 researchers from China, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Mongol arrived at ICBiotech to participate the UNESCO training project for FY 2013 (One-month lab revisit program). Opening Ceremony of the International Research Complex for Biotechnology

Opening Ceremony of the International Research Complex for Biotechnology was held at Icho Kaikan in Osaka University on August 2. Following the renovation of the old building and the construction of the new one, ICB has relocated to its new home last May 20, 2013.ICBiotech has started its activities.

9 researchers from China, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam arrived at ICBiotech to participate the UNESCO training project for FY 2012(One-month lab revisit program). Opening ceremony and reception were held on 30 August. Hubert J. GIJZEN, Director of UNESCO Office in Jakarta, and Takashi Asai, MEXT, also attended to make a welcome speech.They will do research and have discussion at assigned labs at Osaka U, U of Tokyo, Kyoto U and Kyushu U until 8 or 27 September.

-Professor Emeritus Tatsuji Seki, Ph. D., the director of the Osaka University, Bangkok Center for Education and Research, Thailand, has received The Honorary Doctoral Degree in Science (Biotechnology) from Mahidol University.

D., the director of the Osaka University, Bangkok Center for Education and Research, Thailand, has received The Honorary Doctoral Degree in Science (Biotechnology) from Mahidol University. Prof. Seki together with other awardees and University alumni attended the graduation ceremony and received the degree from Her Royal Highness, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center on July 6, 2009.
